Dried Fruit and Care Package

20:24:00

Hey everyone!

I mentioned this slightly in my June Goals and Plans post, but I'm planning to make a care package for my Nan. She lives in England, so I don't get to see her that often, but we're very close and I like to send her cards. She also really liked the dried fruit I brought her last time, so I figured I'd bring some from her this time too (as I ended up eating most of the dried apples last time while we were stuck in traffic).

I also figured I might show you the process of drying fruit, and the final jar of dried fruit, because it looked very pretty! I apologise for the poor photos of the fruit before it was dehydrated, they're taken with my phone!

As you can see, I use tinned pineapple purely because it's a lot cheaper than fresh. I also use defrosted frozen raspberries (did that make sense?), which are then very very soggy.

I then packaged them into this clean peanut-butter jar, and solely for the instagrams, I layered the apples, pineapples and raspberries. I have to say, my favourite of the fruits is definitely pineapple, because the raspberries turned out too dry and tasteless. They looked cute though!

By the way, if you're interested in knowing how I dry them, which I didn't really touch on in this post, I use a dehydrator that I got for christmas. It's from a local hardware store here in Norway, and was about £25. Basically it has trays, I lay the fruit on them and turn it on. Then, 16 hours later, I come back, and il est finit!

Not a very long or interesting post I have to admit, but I got a comment or two on the care package I was making and wanted to share it with you. It's not really a package, as I realised there wouldn't be much point in sending it by post when I'm visiting them so soon.

I hope you all enjoyed this post, please let me know what you thought! Also, I'm going away for a lot of the summer so I'm having to pre-write a BUNCH of blogposts, so let me know what you'd like to see here on this space these coming weeks!

What's in My Carry-On Bag

22:21:00

Hey everyone!

As you guys might know, I travel quite a lot. Most of the time it's to England (I'm actually going next weekend) and I only take a carry-on. That doesn't mean I don't pack an extra handbag with what most people would consider their carry-on, and I thought I'd share the contents of that with y'all today.

First of all, I always pack in this satchel from Primark that cost me £12. I love it because it's the perfect size to carry a book, and a few other essentials. It has a zip pocket on the inside which is where I usually keep my passport and phone.

I also always bring a book, because I'm a massive nerd who loves reading. This time I'm bringing Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan (who cowrote Will Grayson, Will Grayson with John Green). I haven't gotten far into it yet, but so far I'm finding it really funny and cute.

My glasses are always a staple, because my eyes dry out on aeroplanes, and so I usually switch from contacts to my glasses. That's also why my contact case is included, in case you hadn't figured that out.

The skin on my hands gets crazy dry, even if I'm not in an aeroplane, so you can imagine what they're like on a flight. I like to bring something to moisturise them, and today I chose the Body Shop Mango Body Butter, which smells absolutely heavenly. This one I got in a gift set for Christmas, so it's a mini size of 50ml.

As you've probably guessed, my lips also dry out. Sometimes I bring a Carmex, which really are the best for sore lips, but I chose the Nivea Lip Butter (only because its packaging is prettier), which is also really good, although it can sometimes make you look a bit dead as it casts a white layer on your lips.

To stop looking like a walking corpse, I packed the Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me. I featured this in my March Favourites, and I still love it and wear it several days a week. It really makes me look more awake than I probably am.

I usually also bring something for bad breath with me. I like the one from Primark, because it's only a pound and is really good. I use this if I fall asleep on a flight or if I just haven't eaten for a couple of hours and want to freshen up a bit.

The last thing I bring, except from the obvious phone, passport and boarding pass, is of course my headphones. I never know what to call these - earphones, headphones? Anyway, as most people I love music, and I therefore need these to not share my music with the entire aeroplane.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post, and maybe it helps you out next time you're stuck in a packing rut. Let me know what you like to bring on aeroplanes!

15 of My Favourite Feelings

22:32:00

Hello everyone!

Today's blogpost is going to be a bit more personal, and is inspired by Essiebutton's new video. I'm going to share with you 15 of my favourite feelings, so with no further ado, let's get to it!

Found this gorgeous print on an etsy page, click the photo for a link!

  1. I have a large window right by my bed which has a gorgeous view over our tiny town. For christmas, my dad built a stand for my bed to be raised, so that I can literally lie with my head on my pillow and look at the view. I do this mostly in winter, because it's too light in summer and I wouldn't be able to fall asleep. This feeling makes me feel so small, but yet like I have the power to change the world.
  2. I really like the feeling of finishing a workout, especially one before school. It makes me feel so accomplished, like I'm finally working towards my goals, and it sets my entire day in the best mood.
  3. This might seem quite stupid, but I love the feeling I get after I've had a lesson with my science tutor. She explains everything so well, and it makes me feel so smart. It makes me feel like I actually have a chance at getting a good grade this year, which leads me to the next point.
  4. I'm someone who is very motivated by grades. It might be stupid, but seeing that I got an eight on my last assignment fills me with a joy that proves that all my hard work has payed off.
  5. Possibly my very favourite feeling is giving someone close to me a gift. I've just bought one for a very good friend of mine, and it just makes me so happy to imagine what they'll look like when they receive it, and know that I was thinking of them. I'm the worst at keeping secrets in this situation, so all my friends will know what they're getting for their birthdays as soon as I've bought it. I just get so excited, and I can't stop thinking about it!
  6. Some of you may know that I have family in England, who I visit every now and then. They live a long drive from the airport, and we usually arrive late at night. We always stop at the same service station for dinner, always buy the same food. Just the feeling of sitting in a rented car with a plastic bag of dinner on my lap, about to fall asleep and just looking at the roads as we drive past, makes me the happiest person on earth. I think it's because it allows me to properly look forward to the weekend, and I really love it.
  7. A lot of you probably agree with me on this, but another feeling I absolutely love is listening to music. I mean the kind where you play it so intently that it fills all of you, and you can't help but dance and sing out loud. I don't usually listen based on albums, but there are a couple of albums that are all I've been listening to for these past few weeks - X by Ed Sheeran, 1989 by Taylor Swift, Future Hearts by All Time Low, 5 Seconds of Summer, and the Hairspray soundtrack. I love having these tunes fill my body and soul, and it makes me almost have an out-of-body experience.
  8. I actually really enjoy the feeling of tidying. Not necessarily while I'm doing it, but looking at my clean and tidy desk or drawer makes me feel so organised, and like I can take on the world.
  9. Some of you may know that I'm a swimmer, but even more than swimming in the pool I really enjoy swimming outside when I'm not supposed to. There's something about knowing it's not the appropriate time to swim that makes it even more exciting. In my friend group, I always suggest that we go swimming when it's dark and late at night, bad weather or just not the typical time to swim for whatever other reason.
  10. I'm very into photography (although I haven't done it for a while, oops) and I love watching the photos download onto my computer after I've just been out. It makes me so happy to see what I've produced, and it always makes me so proud.
  11. I feel like I always mention friends who live in other places than me, but it's because I've moved around quite a lot. I love the feeling of talking to one of them for hours on end, about nothing in particular. We could literally be talking about anything, it just makes me feel so happy and appreciated.
  12. Nothing beats the feeling of coming home on a Friday and knowing that you have no plans and no work to do. The thought of all this time that you have nothing to do with makes me feel excited for all the possibilities there are.
  13. I'm quite a reminiscent person, and I really love looking back at old photos and letters. It makes me so nostalgic (but in a good way) and reminds me of all the people I love who love me back.
  14. Finishing a project, in particular a crafty one, makes me so happy. Just seeing what I've been able to create with my hands from ideas that started in my head feels incredible.
  15. I really don't like cars that drive fast or anything of the sort, but I love driving boats during the summer. The feeling of wind blowing my hair, almost blowing my contacts out of my eyes, the waves almost flipping our little dinghy, and the sound of the old engine struggling - nothing could ever beat that feeling. To me, that is the feeling of summer.
'These are a few of my favourite thiiiiiiiings' is the song that comes to mind right now. I don't know why that one, because I've never seen the Sound of Music, but I think I used to sing that song in choir, and I loved it.

Anyway, those are a few of my favourite feelings, though far from all of them. Which feelings are your favourite? Do we share any of the same ones?

Also, please let me know what you'd like to see more of on my blog. What type of blogposts do you prefer, or are there any blogposts in particular you'd like me to write? I'm curious!

Hello June - Monthly Expectations

20:44:00

Hello June!

Oh how strange it is that you're already here, I can't believe it's been five months of 2015 already! But alas, time slips away from us too soon, and there's nothing I can do about it but appreciate the you.

I thought I'd start a sort of monthly series here on my blog, which will be published the first of every month. I'll be sharing with you my goals for June, and 6 things (as it's the sixth month) I want to do this month.

June Goals

  1. Put up a blog post every three days - I don't think this is too ambitious, as school work is slowing down and it'll be summer soon.
  2. Bring my camera more places - I have some very exciting things planned in June, and I'd love to share some of them with you!
  3. Ace my science exam, or at least as much as I can - I absolutely hate science, but after having a tutor session last week I finally understand a bit more. For my own sake, and for the sake of my grades, I really want to get a good mark on this one!
  4. Write in my diary more - I'm having a visit from a long-lost friend this month who lives on the other side of the world, and I haven't seen her for a year and a half. I most likely won't see her for another couple of years, so I want to make sure I write in my diary most days while she's here, to have something to look back on with a smile on the days where I just miss her too much.
6 Things To Do in June
Some of these are set plans and some are just things I hope to get done, but I thought some of you might want to see them anyway.
  1. Go back to the Harry Potter Studio Tour - This is already planned, and I can't wait! I'm going with my friend mentioned above, and it'll be amazing. I'll be sure to share some photos of it with you.
  2. Have a picnic - something I've been meaning to do for months, but I never get around to it. I do love them though!
  3. Send my nan a care package of dried fruit and a card - I know how she loves receiving things in the mail, so I thought I'd do something to make her happy. The fruit has already been dried, I just need to package it!
  4. Fix the screen on my phone -  I plead guilty in running with my pocket open and having my phone fall out and smash the concrete. It's been pure torture using an old Nokia from probably the 1500s!
  5. Go to an All Time Low concert - I'm SO excited to see them live, and it's in a very small arena too, so we're likely to be quite close to them! I might do a post on the experience if anyone's interested.
  6. Get my braces off - I can't believe I almost forgot to mention this, but I'm getting my braces off this month! This is a very big deal to me, as I've had them off and on for almost five years. This time it's final!
Those are all the aspirations I have for this coming month, and writing this list really helped me get excited for what's to come! Is there anything you'd like to see on my blog this month? What do you think of this new post format, should I do it every month?
